We have just made available the PS806-5 and PS408-5 range of 500W linear (Unregulated) power supplies.
these high output power supplies come with three main outputs at 68V (6A) for the PS806-5 and 36V (8A) for the PS408-5.
There is also a singleauxilary output of 5V (1A) that can be used to power the I/O on your machine.
Both regulated and unregulated power supplies can be used for supply stepping or servo drives. However, unregulated power supplies are
preferred due to their ability to withstand high current surges. If regulated power supplies (such as most switching mode power supplies.) are indeed used, it is important to over rate the power supply to avoid problems like current clamp, for example using 4A supply for 3A motor-drive operation. On the other hand, if an unregulated supply is used, one may use a power supply of lower current rating than that of motor (typically 50% 70% of motor current). The reason is that the drive draws current from the power supply capacitor of the unregulated supply only during the ON duration of thePWM cycle, but not during the OFF duration. Therefore, the average current pulled from the power supply is considerably less than motor current.
For example, two 3A motors can be easily supplied by one unregulated power supply with a rating of 4A.
